Mercedes Schlapp's role in the role of White House Strategic Communications Advisor isn't an easy one. Mercedes Schlapp is faced with a difficult job as the White House Strategic Communications Advisor. She's working with an administration that includes the president as their own director of communications. However, throughout it all Schlapp is focused on the mission in hand and has worked closely with White House's political affairs as well as legislative affairs and policy shops as in the larger communication operation for policy-related rollouts. In her current position, she has concentrated on a variety of issues including school safety and opioids. Her interactions with journalists aren't often in her current job. But she drew a burst of interest in March, after her name was suggested as a possible replacement for Hope Hicks as communications director. Mercedes Schlapp does not have a simple job of White House strategic communication adviser. Her job is made difficult due to the fact she works with a White House president who serves as his director of communications. There are also multiple legal issues that can break the strategy of an administration's communication and several Cabinet secretaries entangled in personal disputes. But through it all Schlapp remains determined to focus on her task at hand, working closely with the White House's policy and legislative affairs departments and policy shops as as the broader communications operation in order to oversee policy implementations. The main areas of her agenda has focused on issues like trade, school safety as well as opioids. She doesn't interact with reporters very much in her present position. There was a great deal of attention from the media when she was named as a candidate to replace Hope Hicks, the communications director. The fight has been ugly. The Schlapp's allies as well as Tony Sayegh began to joust within the press. Schlapp stated that after the Washington Examiner ran a story that contained negative comments about Sayegh, she had a discussion with Sayegh.
